After the first captain has been determined, changes in do not impact the order of play for the remainder of the round.

You are correct. Though failing to defend against the enemy :av just means you have to pay :credit1. One thing I have noticed is that the game is considerably easier when one remembers that one can draw from the top of the deck to pay for things. Forgot that my first few games.... :oops: Wow, yeah,...

Yes, so long as you chose to apply the damage as an expense. You could instead have inflicted on an if so desired.
