Can Cognition Wafer be played on a :crew with Body Pistol to increase the :combat- to :combat+? And if that's valid, what happens if the :crew looses the Body Pistol?

It's so funny you mention this, I was just adding it to the discussion log last night for things to go over internally.

Right now as written, it would improve the :combat- to :combat+.

Ultimately, Cognition Wafer will almost certainly be errata'ed or ruled to only work on skills natively held by the crew. This would mean you couldn't select skills :crew gain from :gear or other cards (for instance, Crash Course and then Cognition Wafer...), or from a crew ability of the :crew itself (for instance, if you were somehow able to procure Cognition Wafer during the Action Phase, after a :crew has taken an :action to gain a skill).

But we're also hesitant to errata too many cards. Every card game has errata and rulings on individual cards, but every design team wants to keep them to a minimum.

Or, you could just leave it as is. If you think about the "logic" behind it, the cognition wafer is hard-wired into the :crew's brain, so maybe after installation the base skill is simply no longer needed?

As it's zero cost, it is kinda powerful, but it requires a two-card combo which wouldn't likely be in your starting hand. You could design aspects of a deck around it, but by itself it wouldn't be a winning strategy. It is interesting that you could play it on :psionic-, though. ;)
