DUNDRACON 2020 - run your own event

Had a great time at DUNDRACON 2020 with TRAVELLER and the boys! Brian and I helped Jeff and Ian introduce a number of folks to the Imperium. Got to see some of the new cards coming (look for them in the ROGUE TRAVELLER article on the front page) and just generally had a great time!

We'll be running demos at CONQUEST SAC in March and CONQUEST AVALON in November (both in Sacramento). Come by and see us.

I'd really like to encourage everybody who attends gaming Conventions anywhere to contact your Convention organizers and offer to run TRAVELLER as an event. You don't need to organize a 'tournament' (unless you're sure you'll have enough folks showing up).

We have found that one-on-one introduction the first time, followed by a group of four works the best for us.

Interested folks always ask us how hard is it to learn - we have taken to explain it thusly: "It has a fairly high learning curve at the beginning, but that flattens out after a few playthroughs. It's bout the same complexity as MAGIC, though learning it on your own is MUCH easier due to the simplified interactions between the cards and the basic rulebook, which is available online. Imagine handing someone a deck of MAGIC cards and asking them to figure it out on their own... plus TRAVELLER has a dedicated solitaire mode, which MAGIC doesn't."

If they're familiar with MAGIC, you'll see the light bulb go on, and suddenly what you have on the table isn't nearly as daunting. It works good for us - thought we'd pass it along.

What has worked for you?

Not to de-rail your thread, but I just wanted to say it was great as always to see you and Brian at DDC. Thanks for all your help with the demos, especially when we got the huge crowd on Sunday!

You don't derail anything, dude. The pleasure was all ours. We'll be at it again in a couple weeks in Sacramento - c'mon by!
